SALT - WALK & HIKE

We organize various types of walks which cater to the different fitness and interest levels of all participants.  

Walks are usually held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays catering to different levels.  

Level 1: Easy

Minimal elevation, mostly paved flat paths, hike at slow pace, less than 2.5 hours.  Route is suitable for those on wheelchairs.

Level 2: Moderate

Some elevation, paths may be uneven, rough, rugged and may include slopes e.g. forest trails, hike at moderate pace, exceed 2.5 hours. Hiker is able to walk 1km, about distance of 3-4 bus stops in 15 minutes.

Level 3: Difficult

More elevation with steep slopes, rugged and undulating terrain, hike at fast pace, exceed 3.5 hours.  Hiker is able to walk 2km in 25 minutes.

Level 4: Challenging

More elevation with very steep slopes, extensive rugged and undulating terrain which may have more than 100 steps per section, hike at fast pace, exceed 4 hours.  Hiker is able to walk 2km in 20 minutes.


We conduct Interval Walk Training (IWT) once a month to equip beginners (or anyone interested) with the right skills to combine deep breathing with brisk walking techniques in order to hike safely and for longer distances.

Special walks such as local heritage and cultural trails, Coast-to-Coast hiking and others are conducted occasionally. Overseas travel trips may be organized from time to time.

INTERVAL WALK TRAINING (IWT)

IWT originated in Japan - 3 mins of high intensity walking follow by 3 mins of low intensity walking, and repeated in cycles.  This is combined with deep breathing and brisk walking techniques.

Such walks have been held at Botanics Gardens, Pasir Ris park, Labrador park and more.

Such walks have been held at Sentosa, Kent Ridge Park, Dairy Farm Nature Park, Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, Rail Corridor, Punggol Waterway and more.

Such walks have been held at Bukit Timah Hill and MacRitchie Reservoir, Pulau Ubin, Lower and Upper Pierce Reservoirs, Clementi and Dover Forests and more.

RESISTANCE BAND EXERCISE

This is conducted every Friday from 10 to 11.30am by Instructor Beng Hock.  This exercise is held indoors and participant is required to get a resistance band.
