SALT - PARKINSON/ONLINE EXERCISE

We have combined our SALT-Parkinson group with SALT-Zoom Exercise group to form this new SALT-Parkinson and Online Exercise group.

Our objective is to encourage and help those who are homebound including our Parkinson Fighters (esp those confined to home due to sickness or limited mobility or caregiving duties) to exercise and socialize together. We will send out Zoom invites whenever there is a session. Below are some of the online exercises that we do:

PARKINSON’S DISEASE (PD) SUPPORT GROUPS & RESOURCES IN SINGAPORE (updated 18 Nov’25):
The information below is provided by Uncle Johnson See (UJS), who was diagnosed to have PD (Parkinson’s Disease) more than 10 years ago. Different terms are used for Parkinson’s Disease (PD) patients/sufferers. Common terms are PwP (Person-with-Parkinson), Parkinson Fighter & Parkinson Warrior.
Often when a person is first diagnosed to have PD, he will be emotionally affected and feel lost/confused and even get into depression and withdraw from society. It is important to get support and participate in some of the activities from one or more PD Support Groups in Singapore.
UJS often will remind himself or say:
“I have Parkinson, but Parkinson may not have me.”
“I must Stay Very Active & Never Give Up.”
“I need to Prevent the Preventable, Delay the Inevitable & the Wisdom to know the Difference”
“I have to LOOK UP (to my God) to LOOK AWAY (from my PD) and to LOOK OUT (to Reachout to Others to practise AAA i.e. Accept, Adjust & Adapt).”
In Singapore, each government/semi-government/community hospital which housed the NNI (National Neuroscience Institute) unit will have its Support Group to support the PwPs under its care (usually with monthly PD related talks and sharing).
Beside the hospital-based Support Groups, PD Fighters/Warriors and their Caregivers are encouraged to join and participate in activities of the following PwP Support Groups and Resources produced by our local PD Warriors/Fighters and their Caregivers & Volunteers/Supporters :

“Like climbing and scaling a mountain summit, we go through many ups & downs in battling PD. Ultimately, it is not the mountain nor the PD we conquer, but ourselves.” (UJS-Everest Base Camp 5364m @12Apr2019)
(6) “Still Standing Strong”
Sing and be encouraged by this song with its lyrics penned by Mak Wai Keong, a PwP supporter.

Verse 1
I woke up today, and my hands feel slow,
But I’m breathing deep, I still let life flow.
They said it’s Parkinson’s, a path unknown,
But I’ve got courage — I’ve never walked alone.
Pre-Chorus
Some days are heavy, some feel light,
I fight my fight in morning and night.
And though this road may twist and bend,
It’s not the start — and not the end.
Chorus
I’m still standing strong, through highs and lows,
With every tremble, I still grow.
I’ve got my people, my team, my guide,
I’ve got love and strength by my side.
It’s a new kind of dance, a different song —
But I’m still here. I’m still standing strong.
Verse 2
Sometimes I stumble, and sometimes I cry,
But I won’t let sadness pass me by.
If the clouds come in, I’ll ask for light,
‘Cause even in darkness, I hold on tight.
Bridge
My doctor listens, my nurse understands,
My family walks with me, hand in hand.
Counsellors, healers, the voices I trust —
They remind me: I’m more than this dust.
Chorus
I’m still standing strong, through doubt and fear,
Even if my voice shakes, I’m clear.
My pharmacist knows, my meds aligned,
Together we keep this hope refined.
It’s a long winding road, but I belong —
I’m not alone. I’m still standing strong.
Outro
So to every warrior, in every land,
You are more than your trembling hand.
We rise, we fall, but still we move on —
Together, united — still standing strong
